TECTONIC PLATES AND EARTHQUAKES?

There are several layers in the earth. The top most is crust. Below that we have broken layers called tectonic plates. That moves at the rate of about 50 to 100 mm per year and develops pressure at its boundary because of convection of heat under lithosphere from asthenosphere. After some time when the pressure exceeds its bearable limit it slips and causes creation of earthquakes.
